To consolidate and strengthen its position as a center of excellence in promoting: (a) knowledge and technological innovation, (b) scientific research activities, (c) service provision and Extension and (d) intervention in the economic, ethical and social development of the country, the region and the world at large. UCM aims to be recognized as a national, regional and international reference university for the dynamism, creativity, quality and excellence of its courses, scientific research activities and services provided to the community.

Mission
Oriented by Christian Catholic principles, the mission of UCM is: (a) to develop and disseminate scientific knowledge and culture; and (b) to promote and provide a holistic and quality training to all the citizens and professionals who are committed to Mozambican and the worlds’ life and sustainable development through the various fields of knowledge.

Objectives
"The Catholic University, like any other university, is part of the human society. In order to accomplish its service to the Church, the university is called upon to be an effective instrument of cultural progress be it for the wellbeing of individuals or society at large, within its areas of competence.

Included among its research activities, therefore, will be a study of serious contemporary problems in areas such as the dignity of human life, the promotion of justice for all, the quality of personal and family life, the protection of nature, the search for peace and political stability, a more just sharing in the world's resources and a new economic and political order that will better serve the human community at a national and international level. University research will seek to discover the roots and causes of the serious problems of our time, paying special attention to their ethical and religious dimensions. [1]

"For many years I myself was deeply enriched by the beneficial experience of university life: the ardent search for truth and its unselfish transmission to youth and to all those learning to think rigorously, so as to act rightly and to serve humanity better".[2]
